5.5 explain why heritable variation is important to selection


It is important because variation allows for selection as organisms with the best adapted traits are chosen to survive.






Heritable variation allows for possibly beneficial, negative or even neutral mutation to get filtered out during each generation by natural selection. This removes negative mutations passing on positive and neutral ones.



Without heritable variation evolution would not occur as all species would fall quickly to parasite because of genetic identical make up.
