1.5 describe the molecular structure of a triglyceride and its role as a source of energy
Triglyceride - a lipid made up of 3 fatty acids and a glycerol
formation of triglyceride
source
Triglycerides have many carbon and hydrogen atoms which makes them non polar and insoluble. Therefore making them an excellent source of energy. Large quantities can be stored in a triglycerides because it can not be hydrated. Triglyceride takes up less storage space as it is stored in plants as oil droplets and adipose tissue in animals. So it is a more efficient storage molecule.
